Last night on January 10th, the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards took place in Beverly Hills, California to mark the very best of 2015’s American film and TV, with Hollywood’s elite in attendance.
Hosted by English actor, director, writer, comedian and ex-musician, Ricky Gervais, the night saw wins for Taraji P Henson (‘Best Actress in a TV Series’) for her role in Empire; Lady Gaga (‘Best Actress in a Limited-Series or TV Movie’) for her part in American Horror Story: Hotel; and Kate Winslet (‘Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture’) for her work in the movie Steve Jobs, among many other awards given out on the night – the Cecil B. DeMille Award going to acting veteran, Denzel Washington.

But while the stars piled in for acting awards, we at SPICE noted a few who won us over with their outfits – the celebrities who pushed the boundaries of style in a way we understood and stepped out bringing something ‘Fresh‘ to the red carpet.
See below our list of 12 well-dressed stars from the 2016 Golden Globes Awards.
1. Taraji P Henson
We loved Cookie’s – sorry, Taraji P Henson’s – look for the 2016 Globes, which comprised of a custom-made Stella McCartney column dress and jewels by Kimberly McDonald. The star looks super fresh and super chic in her clean kinda rapture, and like a worthy-winner of any award going.
Beautifully-bodied star, singer and actress Jennifer Lopez found a new way of showing off her body while at the same time, covering it up with a cape. The star wore a gown by Giambattista Valli, complimented with Harry Winston diamond jewellery. And, matching the gown’s hue to her hotness, by opting for a mustard yellow, JLo made sure we’d all be talking about her today – a no brainer, following the tightly-wrapped fit of the dress.

3. Zendaya
As we predicted, teen star Zendaya shut it down with her ensemble, arriving in a tiered Marchesa gown, which came in a grown up scarlet shade. This young talent is ever-changing it up with her wardrobe, in a way we can compare only to Rihanna. With this latest version of Zendaya, it’s the plunge, the texture and the way her hair and makeup set the whole thing of so elegantly that won us over.

4. Viola Davis
Team SPICE applaud Viola Davis and her sequinned Marchesa gown – noting points for the flattering neckline and semi-sheer sleeves, as well as the cute bob ‘do. We are fans of Viola’s wardrobe decisions and how her stylist employs cut and silhouette to keep things both fresh and flattering.
–
5. Cate Blanchet
Anyone else love Cate Blanchett in her ’20s style Givenchy gown? The retro throwback was brought right up into 2016 with the star’s tucked bob and the silky cape detail, and we won’t be forgetting it in a hurry.
–
6. JLaw
Actress Jennifer Lawrence stood out in her fiery-red column dress with cool cut-out details. Rocking a glittering neckline, the Joy star stole the show though we’d have opted for a more relaxed hair ‘do, in honesty. Still, the actress keeps us on our toes with her wardrobe and this dress helped her make our list.
–
7. David Oyelowo
David Oyelowo is a fan of colour, taking risks whenever he steps out on the red carpet. This time, he went with a checked three piece in mauve, and we loved both the hue and the fit. He looks delicious and we’ve enjoyed refreshing our screens for more shots of the star in his suit.
–
8. Laverne Cox
For her Golden Globes debut, actress Laverne Cox wore a virgin-white gown by Elizabeth Kennedy, which came draped to perfection and trailing on the floor like the jaws of all who seen her pass. We love the dark berry lipstick, which added the necessary edge, and the side-tied chignon was a great touch. We think this year’s going to be great in terms of Cox’s wardrobe.
–
9. Uzo Aduba
Laverne’s Orange is the New Black co-star, Uzo Aduba opted for a glittering Talbot Runhof gown, which came with a slick wrap-around sleeve – the cape-like detail being a big trend that surfaced at the event. We really like how this gown skims the star’s figure, and how she kept her hair relaxed and more youthful with loose waves.
–
10. Kate Hudson
Ok, so this look is as much about the clothes as it is the body, but Kate Hudson’s well-cut abs were always going to land her a spot on our list – seen complimented here in this Michael Kors two-piece. Nude sequins shouldn’t work, but in the case they certainly do, and the high neck frames the blonde’s face perfectly. It’s like a fresh take on 90s-era Britney, and we are so here for it.
The beauty that is Jada Pinkett-Smith shone at the awards, but while her dress’ shape wasn’t necessarily the most ‘fresh’ out there, the emerald green of her Atelier Versace gown saved her. The draped accents showed of her best assets, too – those super-toned arms – and the criss-cross details highlighted her perfect, tiny frame. It’s a different Jada than we’ve previously seen on the red carpet.
–
12. Angela Bassett
And lastly, actress Angela Bassett came to slay in her Safiyaa gown – all asymmetric and highlighting her flawlessly toned arms. The colour is the key to how fresh the star looks, and Ms Bassett also clocked points for her simple, glittering t-bar heels. Gorgeous.
