While we celebrate Democracy Day here in Nigeria, we join the nation in celebrating the country and its foremost colour: green.
And, though nobody rocks it better than the flag itself, we’ve listed below the babes that wear it best, from Nigeria and beyond – the stars to take inspiration from this bank holiday weekend.
Nollywood actress, producer and all-round winner in the wardrobe game, Rita Dominic continues to kill it in green, whether she’s wearing a print or a solid shot of the hue.
We loved her printed Fabric by Sika two-piece spied in this backstage shot, and we can’t forget the Elvira Jude gown she wore to the 2016 AMVCAs. Basically, whenever Rita wear green, we match her in envy.
Nigerian actress, Omotola Jalade Ekhinde is known to nail the red carpet, and always makes her appearances memorable with her face beats and wardrobe.
And, while Omosexy does it well in almost every colour, this green look by Tiffany Amber, rocked to the Fifty premiere at the end of 2015 was a total win, even amassing almost 10k likes on Instagram. We concur it’s a clear hit, giving this 10,000 thumbs up.
You don’t have to be Nigerian to represent, so Rih in green? We’ll take it.
The Bajan babe has been seen in green so much lately that rumours are circling yet another project is going to be sprung on us, following the release of this image on her Anti album graphic artist Roy Nachum’s page – the art being similar to that of the album’s.
While we await further news we count the times Rihanna has slayed in the swatch, with looks being made up of everything from feather boas to green lips, printed gowns and leather boots.
Another of Nigeria’s brightest stars, Genevieve Nnaji is known to throw a green look out like a pro and boy does it fit her well. The beauty pulls of everything from casual looks to red carpet ones without qualms, and we become a bigger fan ever time she does so.
We especially like the mint green shift dress she wore from her St Genevieve collection, and this sporty suit she took to the Love Like a Movie 3 red carpet.
So Solange is known for her love of colour, and seemingly doesn’t have a preference – the walking rainbow stepping out in literally every shade.
But when she turns her attention to Nigeria’s green? Well, there’s a lot of fun had and we are left inspired to try and make the most of the hue, too.
Top media personality Toke Makinwa makes sure green is a regular feature in her wardrobe, and is seen sporting it everywhere from her head to toe.
Recently, it’s been both two-pieces like this one from ElanRed, and accessories likes bags and bejewelled earrings, proving that however you want to wear it, green’s the hue to do.
Another presenter doing the shade justice is South African Bonang Matheba, who seems to slay in green all over the place – from the beach to red carpets and beyond.
Whether it’s an ankara print or a silk ball gown, Bonang looks brilliant in this colour and has us looking to add it to our wardrobe for all occasions.
