Fashion, style and music icon, Grace Jones – the model, singer and actress who makes headlines whenever she moves, and whatever the ensemble – has just released her autobiography, I’ll Never Write My Memoirs.
While being as entertaining as one might expect, with the author having had an eventful life, finding fame as music’s ‘Queen of Disco’ and becoming a top model following her strut on Paris catwalks in the ’80s, the fashion and music icon also throws some shade in the direction of some of today’s stars and reveals her resistance to make any sort of ‘comeback’ by following their moves.
The 67-year-old (though it’s rumoured that is not her true age) says that Lady Gaga;
“…Loses herself inside all the play-acting…”
Ms Jones also reveals that Gaga has been desperate to collaborate with her but has been turned down on every occasion, adding that the “Bad Romance” singer is;
“…A passing phase, the latest trend, yesterday’s event.”
Jones also describes what it’s like to be pressured by the industry to make a return to the charts, writing;
“Trends come along… Be like Miley … Be like Lady Gaga … Be like Madonna.
I cannot be like them – except to the extent that they are already being like me.”
The legendary Grace – who has fronted covers for Vogue and Elle Magazine, socialised with Karl Largerfeld, Giorgio Armani and Andy Warhol (for whom she played muse and starred on one of his famed silk screen prints), starred in a movie, had hits with numerous LPs and still tours today, is an undisputed icon and legendary diva – although she does dispute the fact in her book, saying;
“I am not a diva; I am a Jones.”
Grace’s book, I’ll Never Write My Memoirs is available to buy from $13.53 here – we at SPICE suggest you do and get to know the inner workings and life of a true sartorial genius, in her own words.
