SPICE made it to the Lagos Fashion Design Week and for as long as the multiday fashion event lasted, one could almost feel the pieces speaking to them. Fashionistas and creative mind were not in short supply at this event.
AAKS, Gozel Green, Kelechi Odu, Lisa Folawiyo, Orange Culture, Post-Imperial, Ré and Shem Paronelli unveiled their Autumn/Winter collections at ‘Identity’ on Thursday, March 30th, 2017 at the Red Door Gallery. The AW17 exhibition was aimed at bringing the Heineken LFDW in line with the global fashion calendar while giving fashion designers an opportunity to showcase their work.
A dress by ‘Gozel Green’ was an absolute stunner – almost enchanting, the eyes kept staring at us. however it was for a brief moment as the handcrafted shoes sitting pretty below the dress left us dumbfounded for a brief moment.
As we walked further down the room what caught our attention was unbelievable! Lisa Folawiyo had turned the African print into an embellished princess, oh my God! This beautiful number was entirely hand beaded, only a skilled craftsman could achieve such.
The entirety of the experience at LFDW was totally mystifying, this confirms that Nigerian designers are playing for the world stage or how do you explain the artistic shoes made by Shem Paronelli?
we almost slipped into one of Orange Cultures Jacket, it took restraint not to.
Designers are seen with their pieces at designated space at the gallery, almost reminiscent of a museum.
Of course, we got the chance to speak with Noble Ezeala, Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Shem Paronelli, Simi Esiri and a host of others.
