John Galliano, who is best known as the former creative director for legendary fashion brands like Givenchy, Christian Dior and his own label, John Galliano – is making a return to the luxury industry after being sacked by Dior in 2011 for making anti-Semitic comments, announcing a new role at Russian cosmetics company, L’Etoile.
After the talent’s successful collaboration with Italian luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana last year, it did seem certain he might move back into fashion with a position there as creative director, but instead, Mr Galliano will break into beauty with a role at L’Etoile, which is the largest perfumery chain in Russia, boasting 750 stores and carrying 150 prestige brands, including Chanel, Guerlain and Christian Dior.
His fashion followers may be surprised by the new venture, but the famed designer has previously worked on a fragrance brand which sat alongside his own fashion label, and is said to have been ‘instrumental’ in Dior’s “Addict” fragrance franchise.
We’ll be watching this space for more information on the role and for what amazing things may be to come from L’Etoile under Galliano’s legendary direction.
