This week, model Liya Kebede was announced as one of 30 new names on the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s members list, alongside top industry names like Danielle Sherman of Edun, Kristy Caylor of Maiyet, and designer Jonathan Simkhai.
The list is renewed every year by the CFDA, with designers needing to apply for their membership by submitting a CV, portfolio and letters of recommendation – and with Ms Kebede being not only a familiar face in fashion, regularly seen on catwalks and campaigns (she’s recently been announced as the face of Louis Vuitton’s Autumn/Winter’14 collection), but also being a philanthropist and designer, with her brand Lemlem offering a range of consciously-produced womenswear, there’s no wonder she was awarded a place.
CEO of the CFDA, Steven Kolb said of the new additions;
“These designers are not just uniquely talented, but they also represent, through their businesses, an important contribution to American economy and job creation”
We at SPICE congratulate Ms Kebede and look forward to her upcoming ventures and future successes.
