Brilliant Kenyan actress, Lupita Nyong’o (who was remarkably absent from last night’s Met Gala) has just revealed the character she’s set to play in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens film, via a series of editorial shots by top fashion photographer, Annie Leibovitz.
Shot for Vanity Fair‘s June’15 issue, the beauty was captured at London’s famed Pinewood Studios, where Ms Leibovitz travelled to lens the never-before-seen characters, along with some of the franchise’s favourites, on set.
It has been revealed that Lupita will play the part of Maz Kanata via CGI – her character being a pirate who we’re yet to fully find about; whether she’s on the dark side or is one of the movie’s heroes.
The actress posted the shot, wherein she’s seen with tracking dots on her face, from which she’ll be turned into her character, to her Instagram page yesterday on May 4th (National Star Wars Day, on accounted of the phrase “May the force be with you”), commenting;
“The secret is out at last: I play Maz Kanata in Star Wars VII. @VanityFair has the real scoop with photography by legendary Annie Leibovitz. #pickitupAmerica#maythe4thbewithyou #SWVII #theforceawake“
Other shots from Annie Leibovitz’ shoot include Adam Driver as new baddie, Kylo Ren and Oscar Isaac posing as pilot, Poe Dameron on set of the movie.
We at SPICE love the surreal images by Ms Leibovitz – even if it means we can’t marvel at Lupita’s wardrobe, on account of it all being revealed in post-production – and will look forward to seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it’s released later this year on December 18th.
