Net-a-porter – the online portal for buying luxury pieces of fashion – releases its first ever issue of Porter Magazine today, with critics suggesting Vogue needs to be worried.
The infamous ‘fashion bible’ which has been in the market for 122 years, is considered to be in competition with the new glossy mag, which offers over 280 pages of fashion content to readers around the world, starting with its launch today in 220 cities from 60 different countries
Porter is produced by the team at Net-a-Porter, who are based in Westfield shopping center in Shepard’s Bush, London, with creative direction coming from Conde Naste’s former creative director, Robin Derrick. While the internet has been alight with news of its launch for weeks now, Alexandre Shulman (editor of British Vogue) is said to have reffered to Net-a-Porter’s new venture as “a grand Sainsbury’s magazine.”
The debut issue of the mag sees Gisele on the cover and fashion’s biggest stars inside, with interviews with Manolo Blahnik and Victoria Beckham, amongst others.
Though we doubt a little healthy competition would hurt Vogue’s massive reputation or readership, we at SPICE can’t wait to grab a copy of Porter and see how the two mags compare.
