Clearly on a quest to keep creating history, Bajan badgal Rihanna has been busy designing a collection of sunglasses for Dior – being the first ever ambassador of the fashion house to also take on design duties.
The creative director at Puma and collaborator of Manolo Blahnik and Stance socks first teased pictures of the new shades on her Instagram, posting;

Now, in-house images have appeared online (rumours are, there never will be an official campaign), shot by Jean-Baptiste Mondino and showing off the shades, which are available in six colours: silver, red, pink, blue and green, and will retail for $840 alongside a 24-karat gold-plated version costing $1,950.
Citing La Forge from Star Trek as her inspiration, Rihanan explained to WWD;
“I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together.
The process was pretty seamless. I spent a day at Dior with their eyewear design team […] started by looking through all the archives to see what they’ve done in the past, then got acquainted with all the new materials.
I literally sat there and drew and drew until I was happy with the design, and the team illustrated it for me right then and there. We picked materials and colors that same day, and after that it was a matter of weeks before I saw the first prototype.”
Dior’s eyewear designer Mathieu Jamin called the results “unique” and spoke of his team’s first experience working with a celebrity designer, saying;
“She chose all the materials. She chose all the lenses and took time to match all the colours together to see if it was right on her face. It was really important to her.”
We don’t doubt that the shades will be important to the RihNavy (her legions of fans) or Rihanna’s legacy, as she make history here via futuristic frames, becoming the first brand ambassador to design a range for Dior.
