35-year-old beauty and actress, Rosario Dawson is bringing our ‘love of fashion’ out even further, having announced a third instalment from her Ghana-made label, Studio One Eighty Nine, created with her childhood friend Abrima Erwiah, with a new collection titled “Fashion Rising.”
The brand, which was founded by the twosome in February 2013, is created by Ghanaian artisans that Rosario and Abrima met during a humanitarian trip to Africa, as part of the activist movement V-day. And, with the duo’s new range being available to buy exclusively on Yoox.com, Ms Dawson revealed in an interview with the platform;
“We’d never taken on something like that before and it was quite the adventure. We were attracted to the incredible talents and beautiful handmade artisan crafts and art.
What’s so beautiful and quality about this is that you know each piece, because it is handmade, is a piece of art onto itself.”
The pair were also inspired by their travels to Kenya, Burundi and Rwanda, and speaking of the label’s progress, Rosario – who just last night rubbed shoulders with fashion’s elite at the amFar gala in New York, where she was honoured for her contributions to AIDs research – said of her label’s progress;
“It’s been quite a journey and now that we are on our third collection we’ve really identified the different communities we want to work with when we know we can scale. We can take a big order like any other big fashion house now we’re ready to present it.”
We at SPICE look forward to seeing the 17 designs in Studio One Eighty’s “Fashion Rising” collection, which are hand-dyed in Cape Coast in Ghana and of 100 per cent cotton.
