Creative Directors are a huge part of fashion brands. The design aesthetics of a creative director can make or mar a brand. The likes of Alexandro Michele and Phoebe Philo are rare to find, and when there is news that Phoebe Philo might be existing Celine, you begin to ponder on the gap created and how competent the next person would be.
Phoebe Philo has been the creative director of the french fashion house Celine since 2006 after working for Chloé in 1997 as Stella McCartney’s design assistant and succeeding her as creative director in 2001.
Asides from revamping the french fashion house, she has had a lot of achievements on her sleeves. In 2010 she won the “British Designer of the Year” awarded to her by the British Council, thereafter In 2011, she won the “International Designer of the Year” awarded to her by CFDA and many more.
This would not be the first time that a rumor about her exist from Celine is actually making news round, in 2015, and 2016, there was a similar rumor, but this seems to be the real deal, as LVMH, the parent company of Celine have not denied interviewing reputable designers for the role of a creative director, sources reveal that some of the persons being interviewed are Natasa Cagalj, formerly of Stella McCartney; design director of Céline ready-to-wear (per his LinkedIn) Michael Rider; and Victoria Beckham’s design director Ilaria Icardi as potential replacements.
Phoebe Philo is known for her eccentric up to the minute bizarre styles times, in 2016 she sent models down the runway committing a fashion faux pas by wearing mismatched shoes.
Although Phoebe has made it clear that she is dedicated to Celine, but what if this time she is existing for real just like when she left Chloe in 2016 to take a break and cater to her family.
