Last week, as part of #Shero Day which held on 27th of April (2015), Mattel honoured 6 women with their very own miniature, plastic version of themselves – leading Selma director, Ava DuVernay to be made into her very own Barbie doll.
As part of the brand’s Variety Power of Women Luncheon, which took place in New York, the director (alongside editor-in-chief of Lucky mag, Eva Chen, country artist Trisha Yearwood, and actresses Kristin Chenoweth and Emmy Rossum) was presented with the doll for her inspirational work, Mattel commenting;
“Barbie has always represented that girls have choices, and this Spring we are proud to honor six Sheroes who through their trade and philanthropic efforts are an inspiration to girls.”
Each Shero will auction off their doll, with funds going to a charity of their choice. And, with Ms DuVernay’s being the epitome of cool, with her long braids, flecked grey pants, black polo and wooden bangle – not forgetting the director’s chair she sits atop – we at SPICE think Mattel just made the best Barbie ever.
