The 5 Best Pics from Nigeria’s 55th Independence Day

While Team SPICE were busy celebrating Nigeria’s 55th Independence Day, so were the stars, with many sharing selfies and hash tagging their hearts out for their country, and others posting perfectly-styled editorial shots to show their pride.

And, from singers to designers and models, here are the 5 best pics we spied online from Nigeria’s great personalities…

1. Genevieve Nnaji’s Infogram on What Independence Means to Her

Nollywood actress and one of our ultimate style icons (see why, here) shared an epic quote alongside her pretty face for Etisalat, telling her fans, followers and country folk;

“Independence is the liberation of mind, body, and spirit.
The right to do it your way without fear.”

We loved the silver screen’s message (gave us all the right feels for Nigeria’s Independence Day) and we could look at her face for days.

2. Seyi Shay’s ‘Proudly Nigerian’ Instapic

Also part of the Etisalat campaign, singer Seyi Shay had a special shot taken for the day, but instead chose to repost a version made by graphic artist and promoter, Yung Jiz who also created the visual for other artists, including Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Iyanya and more.

Seyi’s saw her representing in a dark green suit jacket, red locks and pink lips, and captioning;

“Thank u for making this @iam_jiz ‘Proudly Nigerian’ @iamseyishay  #HappyIndependence

3. Toju Foyeh’s Stylish Editorial Shots

Upping the ante when it comes to showing pride for one’s homeland, designer Toju Foyeh teamed up with photographer Obi Somto to shoot a series of images that celebrate not just Nigeria’s Independence Day but its culture, with the beauty spied looking regal a gele, cap and Aso Oke.

Proving that traditional wear is well worthy of admiration, these proud pics wracked up over 1000 likes and was even trending online for a while yesterday, with the pretty Ms Foyeh posting the proof and captioning;

“Yaye!!! We are trending @mr.somto@abekemakeovers!! Putting Nigeria on the map through our creativity whoop! Whoop! #proudlynigerian#madeinnigeria#nigeriaat55#nigeria”

Seems like Nigeria’s 55th Independence Day was a celebration within a celebration for Toju and her crew, and for their efforts, we at SPICE salute them.

4. Jidenna’s Campaign with All Things Ankara

Classic man and rapper, Jidenna also went all out for Independence Day, starring alongside model Jessica Chibueze for an epic series of campaign shots.

The images, which were taken to help promote the All Things Ankara Ball – an event taking place this month in Maryland, US – were styled to merge the French Renaissance, Nigerian and other African inspirations, and made for a lavish show of pride for Nigeria’s 55th year of Independence.

And lastly, another pic we loved from yesterday’s celebrations came from silverscreen star and producer Rita Dominic, who was spied looking as patriotic as they come, when her red carpet outfits were collaged to look like the Nigerian flag.

Ms Dominic reposted the pic from a fan site, saying;

“….I pledge to Nigeria my country to be faithful, loyal and honest. To serve Nigeria with all my strength. To defend her unity and uphold her honour and glory. So help me God.

Happy independence Nigeria. Good people, great nation. May God continue to lead us in peace and unity. #independenceday#nigeria#55#nigerian#ritadominic#proudlynigerian#ritadominiclovers#God#bless#my#country
