While there are literally hundreds of style blogs and fashion troopers walking the globe, there is a tribe of exceptional digital stars who’ve shown so much excellence in their style that we at SPICE consider them the Digital Mothers of Style.
Whether you’re looking for more wardrobe inspiration or simply purvey wardrobes as a pastime, check out these 9 leaders of the personal fashion landscape (actually there’s 10 listed, but of 9 sites) – the bloggers and social media stars making us rethink or day-to-day.
A recent star of our Digital Diaries series, Ms Sulmers is one of the most charismatic writers in the fashion blogosphere, but her look is also unmistakable.
Famed for her long blonde dreads, the New York-based multi-lingual fashionista is behind one of the most influential style blogs in the world, Fashion Bomb Daily, which launched in 2006.
The It–girl and her colourful outfits are on everyone’s fashion list, with Claire not only serving stylish combos with frequency, but stepping out to Fashion Weeks worldwide, from New York to Australia and beyond – recently taking her sell-out ‘Cocktails with Claire’ event to Lagos, Nigeria where Team SPICE caught all the behind the scenes action (see the trailer below).
Her site dishes fresh, engaging content from an informed point of view, leaving no wonder she has over 2.4 million monthly visitors and has bagged a number of awards over the years. But check her out and see what you think.
Nigerian blogger, stylist and style socialite Ezinne Chinkata spends a good chunk of her time making the right fashion decisions – not just for her clients, including Kate Henshaw, Ini Edo, Monalisa Chinda and more, but for herself too.
All evidence of her canny way with clothes can be found on her blog Zinkata, which is also the name of her store, selling all the best wears from the local scene.
The store and Ms Chinkata’s styling skills are much-loved, but she’s well worth following for her bravery in taking fashion risks and pulling them off without fail. See a little of Ezinne in action in our clip from Digital Diaries here below.
With over 350,000 followers on Instagram, the U.S-based Nigerian fashion stockist and blogger behind Style Pantry is the absolute mother of fashion blogging, and proves the point with content including breathtaking fashion posts and interviews with top industry players, to tips and secrets on shopping and more.
With certification from the school for Fashion in Style at Fred Segal Beauty, and a clothing company of her own – WeWe Clothing, launched in 2008 – Ms Huntoon has shown a consistent killing of the scene – and, as a mother of three who’s been featured in W Magazine and worked with top brands like Urban Outfitters, she might just be the most in vogue mother out there.
Fisayo Longe, the blogger behind Mirrorme.me, is a must-follow for the fashion-obsessed. The UK-based Nigerian styles each of her outfit posts to perfection, and certainly has a swoon-worthy wardrobe.
Beyond showcasing her daily outfits, Fisayo’s blog is a platform which details her experiences in the fashion industry and showcases her love for food and travel as well.
Her passions are encapsulated by her visually-appealing and intensely inspirational blog, and with a rapidly escalating number of followers, this blogger does not look set to stop anytime soon.
This creative whirlwind, who describes herself as an “Englishman in New York”, is the brain behind WhereDidUGetThat.com – a popular platform that showcases all the things we wish we too had in our wardrobe.
Effortlessly mixing her cool Brit style with a spot of New York chic, Karen has a fearless sense of dress and documents it on her blog, photographing her outfits as she attends fashion events and chronicles her ongoing hunt for must-haves in vintage stores.
She has posed for a CoverGirl ad campaign, starred in videos for Coach and hosted events for Topshop – follow and you’ll see why she’s so sought after.
Cipriana Quann and Nikisha Brunson are the faces behind top blog, Urban Bush Babes – a lifestyle platform dedicated to natural hair, personal style and all things art.
Their very revealing personal stories contrast well with their fabulous style, with the content having a way of making every woman feel great and inspired to be themselves.
Their following just can’t get enough of their distinctive style, and an especial highlight is the natural beauty served by Cipriana and her twin sister TK. #HairForDays.
What’s not to love about Natasha Ndlovu – the cool girl behind Bisousnatasha.com?
Founded in 2013, the blog boasts Ms Ndlovu’s beauty and matching brains, with the platform not only an ode to her personal style, but a haven for photography and travel documentary.
Natasha’s style revolves around simple, laid-back combos soaked in femininity, tailored silhouettes and off-duty model vibes.
The model and linguist leaves us jealous of her jet-set lifestyle and certainly serves inspiration and expert tips to elevate our everyday looks.
Lawd, please bring us everything in Nyane’s closet! One half of the famous Lesotho-born, London-based Lebajoa twins, Nyane is mini force of fashion, unafraid to mix generous amounts of sexy into her chic and glamourous outfit pics.
Currently based on Tumblr and Instagram, the beauty shows off many midriff-baring, bold looks, with her affinity for experimental styling.
Nyane also has a knack for mixing the old with the new and seems to be everybody’s kind of gal, amassing a following on Insta of 414,000 so far.
Follow for inspiration and prepare to be jealous – and note that good things come in twos, with Nyane’s twin sister, Mpho also jaw-droopingly dressed – as you’ll see here in our first ever series of Digital Diaries.
One look at Freddie’s blog and you’ll want her to pack you in her suitcase, or hide out in her wardrobe for a day or two.
Judging by her immense online following, she is a favourite among style stars, with the Paris-born, London-based stylist and fashion marketing guru rocking a Solange-style ‘fro and similarly eclectic sense of style.
We love her #OOTDs which are always impeccable and full of colour, as well as her SHE Unleashed video series, which brings confidence coaching for the Vogue generation.
Keep up with Freddie via her Instagram here, and you’ll also see inside all the fashion events she is invited to.
