Back for a third instalment during Milan Fashion Week, the popular Beat of Africa event is set to hold this month, with South Africa’s MaXhosa by Laduma and Sindiso Khumalo, Ghana’s Mimi Plange and Senegal’s Sophie Zinga signed up to reveal their latest wears.
Created via a collaboration by Biffi Boutique and ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative, the week-long designer showcase will launch with Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out this Tuesday 22nd of September, with the four designers’ Spring/Summer’16 ranges on display at Biffi Boutique, founded by Rosy Biffi and located in Corso Genova.
Each designer has also been asked to develop a special, limited edition piece which will be sold at the event, with proceeds from these items being donated to a project selected by Vogue for 2015: Istituto Monzino’s cardiovascular diseases research.
As well as their showcase in Biffi Boutique, the designers have been given the opportunity to sell their pieces for the first time in Milan through the Spazio Genova showroom.
With last year’s edition making headlines everywhere with previous candidates Lisa Folawiyo, Duaba Serwa, Mina Evans, Christie Brown, Stella Jean and Anita Quansah, we at SPICE suggest anyone travelling to Milan for Fashion Week stop by the Beat of Africa boutique and browse the rails – and don’t forget to share your experience online with the hashtag #beatofafrica2015.
