We’re still on ‘Light and shade’ this month, and this week’s beauty trend to try plays up to our theme nicely, with bold stripes of eyeshadow seen in both pastel or potent shades having been spied on the runways for Spring/Summer’15.
Yes, bringing drama to the eyes, this season’s seen an explosion of popping eye colours like neons as well as soft shades like powder pink, which were worn to give collections an extra ‘zing.’
Colorful pop art-inspired makeup was seen on the ramps at Fendi, Dior, Max Mara and Peter Som, amongst others, with some makeup artists creating statement looks using strips of coloured leather, satin, stickers and even swipes of lipstick across the eyes;
The runway-approved look for lids brings a party-ready touch that we at SPICE can’t wait to rock and, as usual, some of our favourite celebrties have also been spotted with their own take on the trend, too;
So what do you think – will you be layering your eyelids with a line of pastelled or potent colour? The thing is to remember is balance; if you’re putting pastel on the lids, you could pull off a red lip if you wanted, though if you’re painting your lids brightly it’s best to leave your lips a little more neutral, a la Solange’s look seen above and the looks at Peter Som.
Just see our how-to here, below…
Get the Look: Peter Som’s Neon Orange Liner
Backstage at Peter Som’s Spring/Summer’15 showcase, make-up artist Yadim Carranza went crazy with neon eyeliner in a bold orange hue, but put very little else on models, who were sent down the ramp with minimal makeup to truly have the eyes ‘pop.’ Here’s how you can recreate the look at home;
1. Start with a hydrating base, using a moisturising day cream.
2. Next, even out your complexion with a lightweight foundation in order to hide any blemishes or dark circles. The, voila – your complexion’s complete.
3. Now, taking a lipstick in a bright orange or coral (we like Maybelline’s Colour Sensational Lipstick in “Vibrant Mandarin,” $7.96 here), paint a ‘brushstroke’ of colour along the lower lash line, starting at the inner corner of the eye. You can do this with an angle brush for a neater finish, or with fingers to give you the ‘imperfect’ runway look.
4. Finally, to avoid smudges throughout the day, pat some translucent powder over the liner to seal it. Also, skip the mascara, unless you’re going to go for a see-through mascara to keep the rest of the lok as neautral as possible.
