With Summer upon us and we at SPICE still thinking ‘Heat’ this month, our attention turns to the stars and their way with ‘working it’ over the holidays – the style we’d kill to be seen with while lounging beach or poolside.
So, from the curves of Philomena Kwao to the lithe Eku Edewor, here’s 10 of the hottest bikini wardrobes from some of our favourite African stars.
It is hard to believe that Genevieve Nnaji is thirty-six, what with a body like hers, but believe it when we say the lady slays – all the way from the red carpet to the seashore. The Nollywood A-lister, who took pictures at the Bayan Tree Mayakoba while she birthday-vacationed with friends Mexico just last month, looks stunning in her multicoloured bikini, a sarong and a pair of superstar shades.
The beautiful sillverscreen star also showed off her fun side by working bold, bright colours and a classic beach stripe – and in another shot showed off one hell of a jump, caught for her Instagram account, which we’ll be stalking more regularly this season for more of her super-hot bikini style.
Kenyan model and former BBA 2013 rep, Huddah Monroe has curves in all the right places – and don’t we just love looking at them. While the pleti-bodied babe flaunted her assets by the pool at Kilimanjaru Hotel, Zanzibar in Tanzania recently, wearing a neon pink, string bikini, we were busy fetching glasses of water to cool ourselves down. Like, day-um Huddah…
Accessorising the heck out of her two-piece, Ms Monroe completed her look with a pink, floppy hat, matching lipstick and a curblinked, gold chain. Wowzers.
Beautiful model, female health activist and founder of The Lily Project NYC, Philomena Kwao is a huge inspiration for our wardrobe in general, as she is continuously challenging beauty ideals with her curves and closely-cropped hair.
But the London-born, New-York-based Ghanaian looked so stunning in her bright green leaf-patterned one-piece at Coney Island in the US, that we’re citing her as great bikini wardrobe inspo especially (the girl looks great in a two-piece, too) – and will be rocking our own brightly-hued headgear the moment we’re off on our Summer vacay.
Always on our radar for great wardrobe-spriation, Nigerian TV personality, Eku Edewor looks trim, toned and healthy on a day out at the beach with friends, sporting a bright orange, halter two-piece from growing swimwear brand, Kamokini.
Having completed the look with a highly tousled afro and red-rimmed shades, Ms Edewor looks the epitome of cool before sharing yet another pic via Instagram, posed in a darkly-printed two-piece against a surf board. We’ll be aiming for her ‘too-cool-for-school’ wavelength as soon as we’re near the sea.
Nigerian supermodel, Oluchi Orlandi – tagged “The Supermodel Taking African Fashion to the World” by Forbes – is a consistent bikini style favourite of ours, bringing her body to attention in all sorts of get up that prove she simply does not age.
The former beauty queen has birthed two children and manages to flaunt a body that’s hotter than most teens, but then one-ups the world with her beachside wardrobe that would reduce ours to tears.
Here she is showing off her smoking bod in a two-piece while holidaying with her friend and fellow model, Joy Ikpe. The sight is so hot we almost can’t bear it.
Nigerian actress Sarah Ofili had us hooked on her curves (and her Instagram) while on vacation recently, sharing a photo of herself sporting a turquoise blue, yellow and black colour-blocked matching twosy in a pool.
Her nicely-toned frame and flawless skin had us desperate for the gym, but her swimset? Well, that had us rushing out to the shops.
South African media personality and brand ambassador for Revlon, Bonan Matheba is a babe that knows how slay, and slay well she did recently while having fun at the Gold Zanzibar Beach in Tanzania.
The one-time rumoured girlfriend of D’banj donned a black peekaboo bikini by Andrea Iyamah with a sheer black dress by Gert Johan Coetzee and had us feeling some type of way about it too.
While posing for snaps the beauty switched between wrapping her hair in red and hiding it underneath a widely-brimmed beach hat, and we can’t decide which look to style steal when beaching next.
New York-born Nigerian actress, Osas Ighodaro has been celebrated by more than just a few magazines for her incredible style, and with her expertise in getting dressed complimented by a banging body, the star even collaborated with Andrea Iyamah when the label made its way into the Nigerian market.
The Tinsel star exudes serious amounts of sex appeal in the campaign images and we’ll be taking her laidback, salt-kissed curls and subtle smoky eyes (see our tutorial, here) to the beach at the very next opportunity.
Known as Ghana’s “Queen of Bikinis,” Nicki Samonas is slim and beautiful, and clearly knows how to heat up any pool or shore-side with her epic bikini style.
The onscreen goddess, lucky for us, seems somewhat obsessed with her body and regularly shares snaps of it, bikini clad on social media – this pic leaving us hooked on her halter neck Ankara-like swimset, with mis-matched cups.
Covered with a tee, running free, with shades or no shades, we love the look and will be thinking about it before we hit the sand this Summer, for sure.
Former Miss World, Agbani Darego can certainly add one more thing to her resume: being a superhot, bathing beauty!
The 31-year-old model-turned-designer showed off her amazing bikini body while on vacation recently – hitting the beach in a black onesy with meshed cut-outs and lounging by the pool in a turtquoise two-piece.
While we can’t choose between the two snaps and say which looks best, we can say we are fully focusing our efforts on achieving this level of holiday selfie, by following Ms Darego’s waved-hair-simple-jewels approach to perfect beachside styling…
