After Monday’s momentous Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDAs) held at the Lincoln Center, US, where Rihanna was awarded the 2014 Fashion Icon of the Year award, Vogue Magazine – co-founder of the event – released a tongue-in-cheek video documenting a faux conversation via text, between Anna Wintour and singer Riri.
Alongside the short vid directed by Josh Ruben and Vincent Peone, Vogue wrote;
“Earlier this evening, Anna Wintour celebrated Rihanna’s audacious, individualistic style by presenting her with this year’s CFDA Fashion Icon Award at Lincoln Center. This is the imagined text exchange that led Anna to the stage.”
Directed by a board of esteemed designers, (including Diane Von Fursetnberg, Michael Kors and Vera Wang, among many others), the CFDA is a non-profit organisation working to raise funds for charity and industry activity. Naming Rihanna the winner of the Fashion Icon Award (with past winners including Lady Gaga, Iman and Kate Moss), the council explained she was chosen for “her contributions to the fashion industry as well as her philanthropic partnership with the M·A·C AIDS Fund’s Viva Glam campaign,” saying;
“The Fashion Icon Award is given to an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage.”
Celebrating the winner via this witty short film, viewers can expect a few emojis (fewer still on Ms Wintour’s part but still more than you’d expect) plus reserved opinion on some of Ri’s rebellious looks.
