With Lagos about to be hit with the 2015 edition of Lagos Fashion and Design Week (learn more about it, here), the brilliant brains behind the platform got together last Friday to meet with bloggers, journalists and other members of the press, at a cocktail event at the Heineken House in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The pow-wow was packed full of the industry’s power players, including Dimeji Alara, Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi, Kelechi Amadi-Obi and more, and gave away a few details of what to expect from the upcoming LFDW this October 18th, which has been dubbed “The Celebratory Issue,” since it marks the platform’s 5th year in the game.
While the event including speeches, networking and drinks by the event’s new main sponsor, Heineken, it was the red carpet style that caught our attention, and below are the 5 looks we loved best from the night plus how you might recreate them.
1. Omoyemi Akerele
Of course the founder of the event would come out swinging with her style, so we’re not surprised to have fallen for Omoyemi Akerele’s Gozel Green look – seen here (right) posed alongside designer behind footwear label Kene Repu.
We love the hues, the graphic touches, those loose waves and those lacey mules – and we suggest these key pieces to recreate the vibe;
Topshop’s Midi Skit, £38 here
WITH
Mango’s Geo Print Top, £13.50 (sale) here
AND
Jenny Packham’s Laced Mules, £57.60 (sale) here
2. Adebayo Oke-Lawal
This guy does not disappoint, ever, and here he is making the fact look so effortless and easy.
Adebayo, the menswear designer and creative director at Orange Culture, wears his signature skinnies and envelope clutch, and adds a printed piece in the shape of a slim-fit blazer from his Spring/Summer’15 collection as the trophy piece. Here’s how to get that look via the highstreet.
Religion x Noose & Monkey’s Printed Blazer, £140 here
WITH
Monk Shoes, £48 here
AND
Men’s Envelope Clutch, £13.90 here
3. Ezinne Chinkata
Top blogger, stylist and consultant Ezinne Chinkata did her stylish thing in wax print by Ituen Basi, choosing to clash a couple for uber effect.
Adding a pair of reflective shades into the mix and rocking matching, pointed pumps it was clear to tell her profession and her love of style. See a few pieces below to mimick the look (and check her out on our episode of Digital Diaries, here);
Printed Shift Dress, £39 here
WITH
Tirivamwe’s Akiko Cape, £150 here
WITH
Quay Australia’s Mirrored Shades, £30 here
AND
Deep Red Pointed Court Shoes, £33.78 (sale) here
4. Lanre Da Silva-Ajayi
Fashion veteran, Lanre Da Silva-Ajayi stepped out ladylike and classic with her ensemble, dressed in a delicate, lace shell top and pop-pink trousers.
The elegant look was complimented by her loosely-waved hair and her pants were clashed with a red lip to finish. Love this and will be trying to do it ourselves with these pieces;
Woolworth’s Lace Boxy Top, R499 here
WITH
BooHoo’s Wide Leg Pallazo Pants, £10 (sale) here
5. Idia Aisien
Lastly, of course we loved our girl Idia’s red carpet look, which came popping with fun prints that were bounced of grown up features via the leather pencil skirt and pointed heels.
We’re not surprised to find Ms Aisien nailing it though what with her episodes of Rock the Runway (see here ) showing us how to work runway looks with your own wardrobe – and we will be trying to make the same moves with our looks, using the below;
Cartoon Blouse, £12.64 here
WITH
Leather-Look Pencil Skirt, £42 here
AND
Nude Lace-Up Heels, £75 here
Looking forward to the 18th of Octobter? So are we, because if this snippet of style is anything to go by, the 2015 Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week’s 4-day “Celebratory Edition” will be the best one yet.
