5 Ways to Move Your Wardrobe Up a Notch

Looking to up the ante with your wardrobe? Well, while we’re thinking ‘Movement’ this month, we’ve also been busy thinking up ways to elevate one’s look – take our style up a notch without breaking the bank…

See below the fastest way to go from well-dressed to super stylish with just the swish of a few key pieces.

1. Ditch Black and Make Prints Your New Go-To

Prints were seen all over the the runway for this season and will be around for next, too – and, a brilliant update to your classic, go-to black, a pattern or two will take you well into trendy territory.

If you can’t quite bring yourself to do a full-on, multi-hued ensemble, get into it with a monochrome piece instead. Team SPICE favourites include graphic prints, which are easily mixed and matched, organic prints like florals and classic animal prints.

Whether you start off basic with one printed piece paired with items in solid block colours, or go at it full force by layering prints-on-prints, this is the way to step out casually, for meetings, nights out or on the red carpet. See our how-tos here for added advice, too.

2. Do Denim Differently

For Spring/Summer’15, it seems the era of the boyfriend and skinny jean has come to its end, with different styles of denim appearing everywhere from top street style shots to editorials and catwalks.

The ‘new’ way to do denim includes relaxed and frayed styles, plus covering all sorts of shapes – our favourite being the oversized denim jacket and culottes, which will take you into the first few months of Fall too.

Not ready to throw out your old, last season denim? Then don’t – you can always fray the hem to move them from out of fashion to ‘in’ by ripping the knees or fraying the hem with a little bit of easy DIY action.

 Go Big on Belts

If you only have budget for one or two new garments, consider Autumn/Winter’s staple piece which should stick around into Spring/Summer’16 too: the big belt.

A brilliant, less pricey way to update your go-to outfit, a thick-strapped style of belt with a bold buckle will walk you from this season to next and beyond with ease.

Just pair yours with your favourite denims, dresses or skirts to get all the feels of a new wardrobe without having to shop for more than one new piece.

4. Add the New ‘It’ Shoe

Another piece to consider throwing into ones arsenal of wears is the Gladiator sandal – the strappy shoes that everyone who is anyone has been seen wearing.

Back in the game and climbing to all types of heights (flat, heeled, to the ankle or knee, you name it), these heels will go great with almost everything else you own; perfect for Summer dresses, skirts, or worn with your favourite denim or leather bottoms.

Be sure to find yourself a pair and take your wardrobe to new heights before Summer ends.

5. Set Your Style Off, Beautifully

Lastly, no matter what status your wardrobe is at right now, the right beauty look can set it off to new heights.

That comfy tee and skinnies you’ve worn to death? Try a glossy new hairstyle and pop of colour on the lips. That old Summer dress or classic LBD you’ve taken for many a-spin? Try a sheen of body oil down the front of your legs for real ‘look at me now’ appeal.
