Thirty-one-year-old Nigerian model Agbani Darego, who rose to fame when she was crowned the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria in 2001 (as well as the first Black African Miss World that same year), has walked the runway for the likes of Diane von Furstenberg and Tommy Hilfiger, and graced the covers of Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire. Now though, the fashion designer behind “affordable luxury” brand AD by Agbani Darego is adding ‘leather goods manufacturer’ to her list of accomplishments, announcing her brand’s new venture just last week via social media.
“Back to work! Growing the brand @ad_agbanidarego#adbyagbanidarego.”
With her brand currently limited to jeans, basics and denim bags, Darego’s step into the world of leather marks an interesting leap into luxurywear, with us at SPICE eager to know how the brand’s affordable pricing will be affected. And, although an official press statement has yet to be released, it’s clear from the picture that satchels, totes and bowling bags could well be making an appearance in the new collection, which will likely be stocked alongside the brand’s other fabulous goods at Grey Velvet, where there’s currently a tasty 30% discount on selected items.
