Beauty Trend to Try: Metallic Smokey Eyes

Smokey eyes are a beauty staple – one that’s constantly reinvented each season. From soft smokey eyes to heavy ones, from coloured shadow to classic black, we’ve tried them all and will never tire of their reincarnations.

For this season, metallic smokey eyes are all the rage, being seen everywhere from the runway to the red carpet. On catwalks, Anna Sui reigned as the queen of the alluring lid, with eyes painted in a range of colours for the brand’s Autumn/Winter’14 show;

And celebrities have also latched onto the trend, with Beyonce seen rocking bronze smokey lids to the 2014 Superbowl with gold highlights in her inner eye – all paired with rust-coloured red lips;

Never one to miss a trick either, is our darling Lupita Nyong’o who has been seen in a sea of colours (on her eyes and gorgeous bod) on most of Hollywood’s red carpets. Recently, Lupita wore silver metallic smokey eyes at the MTV Movie Awards, with bronze painted lips, proving double metallics work well, too;

Want to try the trend? Well then let’s borrow a thing or two from the great MUA, Pat McGrath who created the look at Anna Sui. To recreate  the blue metallic eyes seen on Ms Sui’s models, McGrath first applied Covergirl’s Ink it! liner in “Black Ink” ($6.49) to rim the entire inner eye. Next,  Covergirl’s Flame Pot eyeshadow in “Blue Flame” ($3.94) was added to lids with a damp brush to intensify the look.

Finish things off with a streak of silver in the inner corner of your eyes and a  swathe of mascara, and you can count yourself on-trend, at the direction of Pat McGrath’s skilled hand.
