It’s Summer and whether or not you love the sun on your skin, we all know our hair needs to look fresh, effortless and most importantly out of the way – not clinging to our face and getting us into a sweat. So, enter the season’s new hottest new trend – the swept back, jet-setter hairstyle that’s easier to achieve than you think.
From the runways to the red carpets, sleek, flowing, pulled-back hair has made an appearance everywhere, most notably on the models at Anthony Vaccarello and Gucci’s Spring/Summer’14 shows, where the hair looked soft, neat and chic;
And even our favourite stars are rocking the look, like Selita Ebanks, who attended the 23rd Annual Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Awards earlier this year, as well as Chrissy Teigen, who wore her version to the 2014 Fifi Awards;
Want to get the look for yourself?
Well then first up, you’ll need a clean head of hair, as well as well-moisturised ends to keep the look soft. Then, borrowing a technique from Anthony Turner, who created the look at Vaccarello’s S/S’14 show, apply L’Oréal’s “Tecni Art Full Volume” mousse (£9.35) directly to the hair, combing it through from roots to tips.
Next, blow dry the hair in a backward direction till the mousse is set before using a flat iron in the same direction to keep stray hairs, kinks and curls at bay.
Finish the look with L’Oreal Professionel’s “Super Dust” texture powder ($19.57), raked through the hair with fingers for a naturally finished look. And yes, you can try this out with natural hair, too, though if you become a total pro, why not try and update the style with the wet-look trend, explained here?
And there you have it – an on-trend (and sweat-free forehead) look for Summer. Show us your attempts on Twitter and Instagram via @SPICETVAFRICA using the hashtags #SweptBack and #ITried.
