Used in the ancient ages to ward off the evil eye, to deflect light or for anti-bacterial purposes, historically, eyeliner has been a very important ‘tool’ for both men and women. Fast forward to modern day and eyeliner has evolved somewhat, becoming a classic makeup look that can be worn with over 10 variations.
For 2014 specifically though, Cushnie et Ochs created a version of the flicked variety, which he walked down the catwalks paired with natural, moisturised lips.
And with Nicky Minaj also dropping her usually bright makeup look to rock this minimal look on and off the red carpet, we are certain that the winged eye and nude lip combo has found its place in the styles-sphere.
To recreate this trend, we recommend using gel or cream liners, which will give the depth that is needed to paint a perfect liner look. Our faves include Asta’s gel liner in “Onyx” (N1,000), which comes with an applicator brush, or Maybelline’s “Colossal” Kajal pencil ($5.86).
Our much-used technique is to layer the gel liner up for a more intense look ,and then simply pair your winged eyes with a good lip balm on lips to give you a natural, full and soft pout.
