Blake Lively Accused of Racism Over #Cannes “Booty” Pic

Top Hollywood actress, Blake Lively has been called out over the internet, following a ‘back shot’ she posted to her Instagram this week, captioned;

“LA Face with an Oakland Booty.”

The picture shows the pregnant star’s impressive figure, sparkling in a gown by Versace as she hit the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.

Blake was alluding to her shapely behind via lyrics from Sir Mix-a-Lot’s 1992 song, “Baby Got Back”, but followers online have criticised the star for being racially insensitive and appropriating black culture, seeing as Oakland is traditionally viewed as having more black residents than LA.

Some have taken to her Instagram page to voice their disapproval, with comments ranging from calling the star “slightly racist”, to downright “RACIST!”. Vogue reports one Internet user posting;

“Another day, another rich white woman using women of colour’s bodies as a punchline and commodity.”

Overwhelmingly though, recent comments are in support of the star, with users of various nationalities claiming it’s racist to be “telling anyone that they can’t quote a song because they are not the same colour as the artist”. Another user, claiming to be from Oakland, posted;

“Aye I’m from the BAY AREA & I feel like [that’s] a big complement and I [love] how you compare your body to ratchet-est CITY ever lol yet they have girls [just] as golden as you are.”

While Blake is yet to post a response and has chosen not to delete her picture or caption, opinion seems split. But what do you think?
