Starring a lineup of six top model faces, Olivier Rousteing’s new ad for Balmain boasts the good looks of Jourdan Dunn, Binx Walton, Ysaunny Brito and new face Kayla Scott, as well as Cara Delevingne and Issa Lish.
Captured by Mario Sorrenti and art-directed and styled by Love Magazine editor, Katie Grand, the ad showcases Mr Rousteing’s Autumn/Winter’14 safari-themed collection, which he describes as being;
“…All about being covered up from head to toe… my new vision of sexiness.
I still think a girl can be sexy in an oversize khaki jacket or a parka, [or] black tights and a long, midi-cut skirt. I’m growing up at the same time my collections are growing.”
With a campaign stocked full of diversity – Binx being a mixed race American model, Ysaunny Brito of Dominican heritage and Issa Lish being Mexican, for example – we at SPICE are pleased to see the shots, which seem to fall in line with the designer’s recent comments, wherein he explained;
“I’m French, I’m black, and I’m proud to be at Balmain, but this is a message of freedom and globalism.
I think fashion is all about a vision that you can give to people; it’s [about] expressing that passion. We need to show how diversity is important.”
