Celeb Style Profile: The Stunning Agbani Darego

Agbani Darego is one of Nigeria’s most beautiful recognisable faces, with her beauty and achievements being unforgettable. From beauty queen to stylish personality, this red carpet regular is permanently on our most stylish list, and next, we take a look back at her evolution in style – from glimmering pageant crowns to chic, simple dresses…

Miss World Wettbewerb

In the year 1999, a young Agbani Darego auditioned for the Mnet Face of Africa competition, but wasn’t chosen. After completing her secondary school education and while studying at university, Agbani was crowned Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria and went on to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant, where she finished seventh, overall.

Following her Miss Universe success, Agbani went for the Miss World competition and clinched the title, being crowned Miss World 2001 – the first black African to win it. And, from that very moment, Agbani’s life changed; she has since represented many global brands and become a business woman – currently standing as the face of Arik Air and Gentle Touch (alongside fellow Nigerian model, Oluchi Onweagba), owning fashion label AD by Agbani Darego, and regularly making stunning appearances at top notch events.

And here, Agbani is seen making an appearance at CarniRiv, held in Port Harcourt in 2012, rocking print like no other with her mega watt smile.

When it comes to her style, the star plays around with bright colours and opts for minimal jewellery, save for a pair of statement earrings on the odd occasion.

For example, here’s Agbani in a MEENA royal blue, backless, floor-length dress which features a high neck, sequins on the bodice and waist, as well as an alluring train at the 2012 Lucie Awards in California.

Agbani was at the London launch of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation. Also in attendance were a host of African leaders. Miss Darego attended the event in an Antonio Berardi stunner!

And, going green at her 30th birthday party in Lagos, the star is simply stunning – proving that she can rock any colour and look just radiant.

But it’s not just her own birthday she dresses herself amazing for, as proved by her look for Senator Daisy Danjuma’s 61st’s birthday dinner, where Agbani wore an orange Roberto Cavalli look.

The pageant queen turned familiar face in fashion also rocks monochrome like nobody else, making a chic statement whenever and however she steps out.

Here she is in Bridget Awosika at the Elite Model Look Nigeria event, 2012, where she revealed her hot body via sophisticated cutouts.

And seen in black and white, Ms Darego looked ultra classy for the launch of Glam Report TV in November, 2013, making us wish we could have the same mesmerising effect with our wardrobe…

Agbani was regal on the red carpet striking an akimbo in a green one-shoulder strap and cape creation by Meena. She accessorized the frock which features an alluring train with gold-and-emerald drop earrings, and a gold clutch. Sweeping her braids to her back, she completed the look with red lipstick.

This year, for the Africa’s Movie Viewer’s Choice Awards 2014, Agbani showed up looking regal, debuting a braided look for the first time ever, with a green one-shoulder and cape creation by Meena – proving that her reign in chic style isn’t yet complete.

Agbani’s evolution is still on-going, unfolding and exciting, and we look forward to what’s next to be revealed from her wardrobe as Nigeria’s first Miss Universe and most consistently best-dressed celebrity ever to hit the red carpet.
