Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the writer, feminist and the human rights activist, is shot by celebrated Nigerian photographer, Lakin Ogunbanwo for Riposte Magazine, looking beautiful and boasting twisted, natural tresses.

The earnest and minimal editorial accompanies an article with the author of popular novels Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah, serving as an intimate set of portraits that focuses on her inner strength and ethnic roots.

As Chimamanda speaks on identity, race and politics in the candid interview with Danielle Pender (which Riposte suggests you buy here), she ditches her usual long braids, twisting her voluminous, thick hair into an updo that’s sleek, chic and fitting to her pretty persona.
