Model and serial red carpet slayer, Chrissy Teigen has been speaking publicly on her decision to have a daughter – herself and her husband John having undergone IVF to have a child, and revealing the details in a recent interview with People Magazine.
The couple, who announced with news of their pregnancy, that they’d struggled to conceive naturally, were able to choose an embryo during the IVF process, which isn’t strictly unusual for couples going through the treatment in the US.
But having shared the details with the magazine, Chrissy’s followers became outraged.

“I made the decision. Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from the little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl.’
I think I was most excited and allured by the fact that John would be the best father to a little girl. That excited me; the thought of seeing him with a little girl. I think he deserves that bond.

A boy will come along. We’ll get there, too, so it’s not like we really have to pick.”
In reaction to the news, one Twitter user asked the swimsuit model;
“Did you choose the hair and eye colour too @Chrissyteigen …smh messing with the natural blessings from God. I liked you a lot…”
Chrissy joked back;
“I also picked the embryo with a taste for bacon, a knack for magic and size 7 feet so she can always find shoes.”
Another user wrote;
“I do think it’s sad people would pick a specific gender/prefer a specific gender.”
After a barrage of Tweets, the controversy lead Chrissy to make a more official response , Tweeting;

From reading everything tonight, I think I made a mistake in thinking people understood the process better than they do, which is my fault.
We didn’t create a little girl. We had multiple embryos; girls and boys. We simply chose to put in a female first and second. We didn’t ‘throw away’ anything and still would love to have more of both in the future.
Anyhow, I am not mad at anyone’s beliefs but I don’t really actively seek out people to make them feel bad about their decisions either.”
