This week’s column talks about curvy fashion fave MonifC, a swimwear campaign that celebrates all shapes, plus a Curvy Pick of the Week that’ll have you upstage the 2014 World Cup… Enjoy!
Best Big Brand: MonifC
When describing designer Monif Clarke, the word every blogger, writer, stockist and customer would use is probably ‘fearless,’ since her unashamed movement to make plus size fashion sexy and sophisticated has broken many barriers – and with features in BET’s Rip The Runway and the popular Fuller Figure Fashion week, she’s come a long way with it, too.
Launched in a era where few plus size designers were established, MonifC has gone from being a customer must-have to being stocked in luxury department store Nordstrom, and with items like the infamous “Marilyn” convertible dress, the designer’s continued success is no surprise.
Speaking about when Monif first launched, the designer said:
“I think it is important that my girls (in the US and internationally) can get a piece of Monif C in their city. I want them to know that if they want a fantastic dress, they can go out and have that experience.
I have been successful producing items that make women look and feel good. I want to give that to everyone.”
We at SPICE are definitely fans of her bold pieces which hug your curves whilst being flattering to the figure – take a look at the range, here. The firm favourite remains the aforementioned “Marilyn” dress (seen below in white), which is the perfect base for 100 different outfits that’ll have you looking and feeling good;
Swimsuits For All Launches a Campaign to Empower All Shapes & Sizes
Adding another string to the bow of empowerment for women of all shapes and sizes, Swimsuits For All have taken on a daring feat and recreated the Sports Illustrated 2014 Swimsuit Edition cover as part of a calender to launch their new range.
Featuring plus-size models Robyn Lawley, Jada Sezer, Shareefa J and fashion blogger Gabi Gregg, the campaign truly is a celebration of women who embrace their bodies, which is much applauded in a era where body image is going through a major overhaul.
We think Moshe Laniado, the CEO of Swimsuits For All, summed up the spirit of the calender when she said;
“My favourite curve on a woman is her smile.”
You can see the campaign shots and watch a behind-the-scenes video for the shoot below, which includes some insight into the models’ reasons for getting involved in the campaign as well as talk of their favourite part of their bodies. You can also shop the range, here;
