#CurvesdayThursday: Our Top Picks for S/S’14 Plus Beyonce’s “Flawless” Video Re-done the Curvy Way

Once again, it’s #CurvesdayThursday and this week, we’re talking top picks for Spring/Summer and Beyonce’s “Flawless” video, plus-sized…

Curves vs… Spring Florals

Gone are the days when florals for plus size women meant oversized smocks with no fitting whatsoever, as these days, pretty petal prints come in a wide variety of figure-loving sihilouettes.

As with the monochrome trend, Spring florals are perfect for transitioning between the seasons and whether it’s a pastel delight for a Sunday brunch in the park or bold strokes for after-work drinks, a simple printed piece will easily brighten up your wardrobe and your mood.

To get the look for your fine figure, why not try the ensemble below, complete with these gorgeous slingback shoes by Paris to Ivory Coast-based designer, My Miry;

Curvy News: Gabi Gregg, Nadia Aboulhosn and Tess Munster’s Plus-size Re-style of Beyonce’s “Flawless” Video;

Bettering – if that’s even possible – Beyonce Knowles’ video for “Flawless”, last week, three figureheads in the plus size industry, Gabi Gregg, Nadia Aboulhosn and Tess Munster came together to release their very own version of the hit. The fierce re-take was produced by Gregg, who said;

As a bigger woman of colour, I’m often treated differently than my thin, white peers. By brands, by fellow bloggers, by the media … I get passed over for things I’m more than qualified for. I get stares and cold shoulders at fashion events. Like Bey, I usually just brush these people off and I’d never give them power by addressing them here or anywhere else. But it gets tiring, and sometimes I’m really tempted to drop the ladylike thing and just kind of … go in…

(Tess, Nadia and I) are supportive of each other and are all working toward the same goal: body positivity and inclusivity. You don’t have to be a certain size to claim your flawlessness. Fat is not a flaw. “

Whilst we at SPICE may blush a little at the sheer bluntness of the lyrics, the song is representative of the strong message these gorgeously-bodied role models want to portray. Peep the video, below. #EveryBODYisflawless;

Curvy Pick of the Week:

As the saying goes, “start as you mean to go on” and here at SPICE we are certainly about making a statement this season. That’s why we’ve picked this memorable printed, sheer crop top and matching pencil skirt from Rue 114 – a label founded by Ghanaian designer Serwah Asante.

Rue 114’s status is all about the celebration of every shape and size, and with this heavenly match of chiffon and cotton Ankara, you will be left feeling ladylike this Spring and no doubt a little sassy, too!

To rock this trendy twinset (yours for $90 and $120, here and here) during the daytime, simply team with a longline black blazer and pointed courts. You’ll be looking like someone who knows how to show off her curves in no time.
