#CurvesdayThursday: Pieces to Give Your Style Status Independence from the Rest, Plus a Curvy #TBT from Liris Crosse & Vol Up 2 Mag

This week, while we’re still celebrating Nigeria’s 54th year of independence, which happened this month, we’re looking at ways to give your curves a way to standout of the crowd – freedom from all things mundane when it comes to style.

Hence, this week’s #CurvesdayThursday includes one of our favourite big brands, Rue 107, a look back at an unforgettable shoot collaborated upon by two of the industry’s leaders in plus size modelling, and a piece that you need to have swinging in your wardrobe (and from your killer bod) this season.

See it all, below;

Big Brand: Rue 107

With queens of curves like Ashanti, Evelyn Lozada and Amber Rose amongst their loyal shoppers, Rue 107 is nothing short of an underground success since its launch just a few years ago. And, self-described as a “clothing line for girls who are dreamers, lovers and statement makers,” it’s easy to fall in love with their range of simple silhouettes and powerful prints, which are used to create pieces that really set you apart from the crowd. Add in the fact that said prints and fabrics are actually developed and produced in-house in their New York studio, and you truly are looking at a brand offering real style independence…

We at SPICE particularly love that Rue 107 expanded its entire range to include plus size options for women (a move inspired by a plus size customer of their first range, who happened to have great personal style) and we just can’t get enough of their collection for Autumn/Winter’14, which includes two-pieces, figure-hugging dresses with cheeky slits and, of course, an array of those infamous prints.

With items starting at just £50, we suggest you take a look at their range here and then go put your own spin on Rue 107!

Curvy #TBT : Liris Crosse Vol Up Magazine’s “Supernatural” Issue

For this week’s Curvy TBT, we’ve chosen to look back at size diversity advocate, model and actress, Liris Crosse’s shoot for Vol Up Magazine, titled “Moon in Hand.”

Liris – with her gorgeous looks and faultless curves – is a model that pretty much paved the way for curvy women worldwide, being spied in campaigns for Lane Bryant, Ashley Stewart, Charles Schwab, Glamour Magazine and Sony. And, here in this self-style shoot – lensed by Paris’ first plus sized model-turned photographer, known as Velvet d’Amour – it’s clear to see why Ms Crosse has been dubbed the ‘Naomi Campbell of Plus’ and ‘The Body’ by the industry, with her’s giving us good reason to turn green with good old-fashioned envy.

See Liris do her thing in the spread here, below;

Curvy Pick of The Week: B-Side by Wale’s “Carica” Coat

Continuing down the independent path, our Curvy Pick of the Week is this a beautiful piece to give everyone else’s same-y wardrobe a run for its money – the cool “Carica” coat from Nigerian designer, Wale Adeyemi.

Awarded an MBE in 2008 for his services to fashion, it’s no surprise his B-Side womenswear range oozes regal chic and, rocking this Autumn/Winter’14 investment piece, we’ve no doubt you’ll be showing off your style’s superior status, too.

We at SPICE especially love the coat’s blend of bold and neutral colours, as well as the oversized collar and mid-length coverage, which combines for the perfect, curve-loving show-stopper for the colder season ahead.

Practice your strut and snap yours up (£200.00) here.
