This week’s all about the Summer-freindly, breathable mesh trend, bright whites and a brilliant editorial with Full Figured Fashion Week’s founder. Find it all, below;
Now that Summer is in full swing, a perfect Spring/Summer trend to get into is the sheer look. From airy organza to feminine lace and see-through, cut-out panelling, the playful game of reveal and conceal allows one share glimpses of the skin in subtle, chic ways, as well as an easy transition from ladylike to sultry. Another clear advantage of rocking this trend is the breathable fabrics used, which mean you can look fabulous all day long without breaking into too much of a sweat!
For curvier figures, it’s important to adopt the mantra ‘less is more’ and choose semi-structured pieces with sheer panelling in unexpected areas. We at SPICE love this T by Alexander Wang shirt dress as it is a perfect mix of naughty and nice, whether you wear it for day or night. Paired with mesh heels (a bargain at £23), double stacked rings and a block colour clutch, and you’ll have the sheer look down in no time;
Curvy News: Gwen Devoe for Pose Magazine’s July’14 Issue
Full Figured Fashion Week, an annual plus size fashion week, recently concluded its fifth year, and – dubbed the Oscars of plus-size women’s fashion – the event brings together an average of 500 models, designers, retailers, bloggers and shoppers from an industry worth £9 billion, annually. No easy feat for anyone to organise! However, this event was the brainchild for founder Gwen Devoe, who covers this month’s Pose Magazine, which is a specialist magazine for the fuller-figured women.
Alongside posing in some pretty powerful outfits, Devoe talks about the inspiration behind starting her event, the growth for the plus size market and how to become your own mogul. To sum up the article in a sentence, Gwen says to all aspiring moguls;
“Don’t wish for it, work for it.”
The article is well worth a read as you can imagine – but have a look at the editorial below before reading the interview, here;
Curvy Pick of the Week: French Connection’s Wimbledon-White “Pixel” Dress
So our month of celebrating Sports may be over and so is Wimbledon, but that won’t stop us from rocking this fresh white “Pixel” dress from French Connection.
One of the season’s biggest trends is head-to-toe white, so we can’t wait to don this simple Peter Pan-collared ensemble with our best white heels. Or, for days out, why not rock this with sliders to keep the look super casual, or with wedged sandals to add just an inch of glam to your lunch date?
First, you’ll need the dress (£90), here.
