#CurvesdayThursday: Trendy Tradwear for Your Curves & the New Plus Size Model on the Block…

As we spend this month focused on all things tradition, we’re looking at tradwear made to fit your curves, plus there’s a new curvy goddess on the block in Nana Serwaa Adu-Boateng and a dress by Ohema Ohene just calling for attention. Give them yours, below;

Best Big Brand: Pukie’s Wardrobe

We have a serious case of shopping thirst with this week’s Big Brand, the gem that is Puksie’s Waredrobe! The brainchild of beauty and fashion blogger, Isoken Asemota, this is a colourful, modern and stylish label set on revamping the way we wear the classic iro and buba (a wrapper and top for our non Yoruba-speaking readers).

Suitable for all shapes and sizes, we love how easy it is to wear these pieces and the colours at Puksie’s Wardrobe vary from demure and subtle – great for a chilled Sunday afternoon lunch – to vibrant clashes of shades that’ll make for the perfect wedding guest look.

We wish we could recommend just one particular style from Puksie’s, but honestly, we want them all!  Shop the range here and try not to spend too much!

Curvy Spotlight: Nana Serwaa Adu-Boateng – a Model to Watch

We love it when we see a new curvy model on the rise and Nana Serwaa Adu-Boateng is definitely a plus-sized stunner that we’ll be seeing more of in the near future.

From modelling for noted Ghanaian designers, to being  part  of Cola-Cola ‘s 2014 World Cup campaign for the Ghanaian football team, this natural beauty is certainly on the industry’s radar, as well as ours at SPICE.

Speaking to Face2Face Africa in September, Ms Adu-Boateng talked about her start in the fashion industry, saying:

“It’s quite difficult being a plus-size model, because most designers work with sample size models. I think it’s because our modelling industry here in Ghana hasn’t ‘expanded’ itself enough to fully embrace diversity.  It can be very disappointing, but you have to love [modelling] to really keep going.”

Like top plus-size model Philomena Kwao, Nana is a graduate, studying law and HR management, hoping to manage a career in law and modelling.  We can’t wait to see what she does next, but here’s some of her work so far;

Curvy Pick Of The Week: Ohema Ohene’s Cape Dress

The “Laura Cape Dress” by Curvesday’s favourite label, Ohema Ohene is the dress that’ll transform any curvy women into a geometric goddess.

The bodycon fit, along with the flare of the draped overlay, definitely makes this item a stand-out piece – one that’ll shake you out of the house and onto the nearest dancefloor.

We’d team it with a gold belt and matching stroppy sandals, but however you wear it you’re sure to look gorgeous. Purchase yours here for £110.
