Best Big Brand: Diane Von Furstenberg
As the festive season draws ever closer (1 month exactly today!) and we all look to treat ourselves in the Christmas sales, we at SPICE thought we give you a lot of luxury for a little less, with our Big Brand this week being Diane Von Furstenberg.
A previous Curvy Pick of the Week designer, Diane is Queen of the iconic wrap dress and a dynamic force in the fashion industry, with fans that include Estelle and Oprah.
DvF’s dresses in particular, which go up to a UK size 18, are super flattering for curvaceous shapes and emphasise the body’s best areas, and the label’s collections lately have been heavily inspired by Africa, with the designer recently saying;
“Africa is the most exciting design happening… the way they put things together – things that really have to work and perform a function – that to me is great design.”

Marquita Pring for US Vogue’s Lingerie ‘for all shapes and sizes’ shoot, November 2014.
Breaking the tradition of showing off underwear via size 0 bodies, US Vogue have shone a more positive light on the fashion industry with their recent shoot, which curvy and relatable women modelling bras in a fun editorial.
Plus size supermodels, including Curvesday Thursday favourite Marquita Pring, stripped to their bare essentials while photographer Cass Bird captured them and their natural beauty, as the models struck candid poses and were shown with retouch-free smiles.
The headline of the article that accompanied the shots sums up the essence of the shoot: “Give me a D! Give me an F!” Because Gorgeous Bras Come in All Shapes and Sizes.
We at SPICE think Vogue tackled the whole curvy debacle brilliantly; without uncomfortable pouts and poses, but with a great insight into the fact that these women are just like us!
