Following her spell-binding portrayal of Patsey in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave, thirty-one-year-old Lupita Nyong’o has had quite the breakout year – from stylish appearances along the world’s best red carpet to dominating this year’s awards season. And, after a string of covetable covers under her wing already (from W Magazine to Dazed & Confused) and a new role as brand ambassador for beauty brand Lancôme, Ms Nyong’o has finally landed the cover for US Vogue – starring on its July’14 issue, looking as amazing as ever.
Lensed by Mikael Jansson in the stunning Ksar Char-Bagh resort, under the guidance of Phyllis Posnick – the fashion editor behind some of the magazine’s most iconic shoots – Lupita stuns in her first Vogue shoot wearing earthy colours, architectural shapes and bold prints by luxury fashion favourites like Givenchy and Proenza Schouler. Seen lounging about a lavish hotel, bathing in rose petals and staring it out with a cobra, Lupita proves her beauty isn’t able to be upstaged and for a minute one might forget she’s not a model.
Commenting on the actress’ captivating presence throughout the shoot, editor Posnick commends her, saying;
“She knows the camera, she knows her angles.”
Accompanying the spread, there’s also an interview set in the sweltering heat of Marrakesh, Morocco, wherein the Oscar-winning actress explains her sentiments about her recent achievements to writer, Hamish Bowles;
“It just feels like the entertainment industry exploded into my life. People who seemed so distant all of a sudden were right in front of me and recognizing me—before I recognized them!”
