The Grammy awards is one of the most highly anticipated award of every season, it is an honor awarded by the Recording Academy to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry(it is slated to take place on the 28th of January, 2018).
This year features a lot of black nominees and we are more than excited for the biggest category in the Grammy’s which is “Album of the Year”. Last year, Adele’s “25″ beat Beyonce’s “Lemonade”, while continuing in the trend of no black win since 2003. Do not get us wrong, in 1974, Steve Wonder was the first person of color to win in that category , subsequently, Natalie Cole, Lauryn Hill, Ray Charles, Outkast, etc. have followed suit. But that has not happened again since 2003(which is a long time, 14 years)
This year, for the first time, no white man is nominated in that category “Album of the Year” and it is super exciting (it is not that we don’t love white artists, but when you see a record breaking list, recognize it)
Jay Z, Lorde, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, and Bruno Mars were all nominated in this category, even though we yearn for a black woman on the list, we have no power to do so, we can only wish that the the Grammy’s is humble enough to give it to a well deserved Artist.
