Ghanaian designer Beverley K Newman of womenswear label, Korlekie, has just implied that her 2012 dress design has been copied by top talent Olivier Rousteing, who revealed a similar creation in the lineup of his Resort’16 showcase for Balmain.
The self-described Afro-British, luxury label who has dressed stars like Rita Ora, Alesha Dixon and Anna Friel, posted an image on its official Facebook and Instagram pages, showing its own black knitted gown from its 2012 collection, side by side with Balmain’s, captioning;
“Is this #inspiration @balmainparis?”
There doesn’t appear to be much interaction so far, or a response from the French label, but from the image, it’s clear that there are similarities between the two pieces; ignoring the general (they are both black, macramé, tight-fitting and long sleeved) the most notable parallels lie in the circular pattern used by both designers, although they are placed on different parts of the gowns.
