Famed fashion icon, model, actress and singer Grace Jones – who recently penned her autobiography, calling out Lady Gaga and more for their thirsty behaviour (more on that, here), has just been revealed as one of the cover stars of Paper Magazine’s October’15 “Nowstalgia” issue, and calls out more pop culture figures, including Kimye.
Joining a series of personalities as coverstar (the rest to be revealed over the next few days), Ms Jones’ past photographic work with photographer and ex-husband Jean-Paul Goude is seen on the front page, but it’s her accompanying interview with Paper’s Sandra Song that has stolen headlines, with Grace talking on the mag’s infamous ‘Break the Internet’ shoot with Kim Kardashian, which saw the internet calling out racism and bringing up Grace’s past work with the photographer, Mr Goude.
Ms Jones said;
“There’s a lot of humour in that picture in that original, [with] the champagne popping off. As an artist, you know, he probably just wanted to have an ass like that.
The work [Jean-Paul and I] did together, people were calling it racist. It wasn’t racist at all. It was him basically putting me on a pedestal, really,”
For Kim’s husband Kanye West, who paid homage to Grace’s past album covers via a photoshoot with his former girlfriend, Amber Rose and Mr Goude, the star said;
“Kanye has been ripping off stuff from me and Jean-Paul Goude for a long time, so it was no surprise to me. I believe they would’ve done it anyway, and I believe Jean-Paul when he said he’d rather rip himself off than have someone else rip him off.
It’s so like, ‘I can’t beat him, [so I guess I’ll try to] understand him. But he did it with somebody else and really badly.”
We at SPICE love the way that no matter what Grace Jones does, says or wears, she seems to always be speaking her mind – but read the full interview here and let us know what you think to Grace’s October’15 “Nowstalgia” issue cover online @SPICETVAFRICA.
