The city of Lagos is filled with just as much excitement as we at SPICE are to witness Lagos Fashion & Design Week for the fourth time round, with the 2014 instalment taking place this week, from the 29th of October till the 1st of November.
Stylists, bloggers, photographers and fashion’s elite will have their eyes and smart phones firmly fixed on the ramp at the Federal Palace Hotel – the venue for this year’s showcase – where Nigerian fashion’s most glamorous will frequent for the 4-day event, which, if you know Lagosians, will not disappoint.
The GTB LFDW’14 will present the finest in Nigeria’s design and creative talent, showcasing new season collections to a variety of local and international press, and this year promises to include collections from designers from right across Africa, too.
Attendees can also look forward to showrooms which open daily from 10am, featuring fashion items, textiles and accessories, with the main draw – the highly anticipated runway shows and presentations – starting from 5pm daily and including this year’s Fashion Focus finalists.
Omoyemi Akerele, creative director of LFDW, stated;
“At GTB LFDW 2014, we will begin to present designers from a selection across Africa; as part of the LFDW vision to promote inter connectivity within the African fashion industry, a vital tool for the promotion of intra African trade.
The African continent creates a natural market for the fashion industry and GTB LFDW wants to ensure that we tap into this market.”
GTB LFDW has, since it’s launch, been at the helm of the Nigerian fashion industry and remains dedicated to the growth and promotion of creatives in the industry by nurturing, fine-tuning, rewarding their skills and providing them with a solid platform for achieving their goals. This vision is primarily centred around providing ongoing support to designers via mentorship, education and capacity building, as well as giving opportunities to present their work annually before a national and international audience that facilitates commerce.
