Boundary pushing designer Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air has revealed the collection fashion folk and lovers of TV will want alike: a collaborative collection with the hit show, Empire.
The capsule line, which was revealed just this month, sees key phrases (like the show’s Jamal Lyon’s “I Want What’s Mine”) worked onto silky jackets, plus sheer dresses, shorts and bodysuits covered in imaginary headlines – the designer explaining as both a nod to the show and references to his past.
Mr Oliver told Vogue of the collection;
“A lot of it is also references to things I grew up with, that are very specific to Queens. All the boys in the oversized Hot 97 Summer Jam tees, all the West Indian girls in the printed Gallianos and Moschinos.”
On the show’s much-loved character, played by Taraji P Henson, who played muse to the new capsule collection, the talent also said;
“Cookie’s a boss, doesn’t take shit, doesn’t comply with any sort of male rules. Cookie’s the first thing out here in a while that feels punk.”
There are 37 pieces in the Hood By Air x Empire collection, some of which (our favourite pieces) you can see below before tagging us in your thoughts on them online @SPICETVAFRICA.
