There are a couple of things in life that no one can escape from and one of those things is aging. We start aging from the moment we’re born. But they say, ‘age is just a number’ and ‘you’re only as old as you feel’, and even if these phrases are cliché, they couldn’t be truer than in today’s world.
Mind, body, and soul are what it’s about and there are tons of ways and small changes we can add or modify to our lifestyle to age in the way we all want to.
Let’s not waste time and get right into it and see how we can at least slow down the effects of aging to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Mind: To keep your mind healthy and sharp, it needs mental stimulation. Neurons that die from ‘old age’ are not replaced and the loss of neurons means the brain gets smaller with age. But all is not as bad as it sounds because the brain has the ability to adapt. An older brain can create new connections between neurons. This is because it’s believed that certain mental abilities are shared by different parts of the brain. To keep the mind healthy there are several things you can do. Word games or a game like chess that challenges the intellect do wonders and are fun. You can learn a new hobby or language which gives you the opportunity to allow the brain to focus. It’s important to keep up a social life and engage with people. The kindest thing you can do for your mind, at any age, had stayed away from stress as much as possible.
Body: We probably don’t have to tell you that exercise and motion is a must. All your vital organs lose some function as you age. Your diet is going to be extremely important if you want to age well. Try eating more, smaller meals rather than 3 square meals as this controls your insulin level. There’s nothing complicated about eating healthier, since it’s mainly about eating less and eating fresh. Besides food, today’s medical advancements makes aging well more accessible, cheaper and less invasive than one thought possible. There’s literally not one part of your body that you can’t improve a bit with non-invasive techniques used by healthcare professionals.
Soul: Try to maintain an upbeat mood, whether alone or with others. Staying away from stress isn’t always easy, but it’s not impossible when you get enough sleep and give yourself breaks doing the things you love. Change your hair color, or buy some trendy clothes. You might rock them better than a teen! Forget about your age and just do what makes you happy.
Smile: Every age has its charm, so it’s not about staying young. It’s about enjoying your life at every age. Smiling and laughing is a secret weapon to aging well. Nothing shows age more than the lack of a smile. Hang around the people who make you laugh till the tears come out. A good laugh is definitely contagious, and there’s plenty in your life to smile about.
