Kanye West Talks to Andre Leon Talley About His 2nd Collection at NYFW

Rapper-turned-designer, Kanye West made headlines in February with his first ever fashion collection, and as well debuting his follow up line this week at New York Fashion Week, the music ‘God’ has been seen talking to one of fashion’s, having been interviewed by Andre Leon Talley.

Mr West, whose Spring/Summer’16 range with Adidas Originals has met mixed reactions so far, sat down with the former Vogue editor after his showcase, telling Mr Talley;

“What I’m doing is getting closer to what I’ve been dreaming about.”

When asked whether being a father to baby North and his unborn son (see why we think Nori will be a great big sis, here) has changed his concept of fashion, Kanye explained;

“Yes, it’s definitely about being as relaxed as possible, and being able to swing my daughter around.”

Andre, who left his role as editor-at-large at Vogue in 2010 but remains a contributing editor, also probed Kanye on his casting choices, commenting on one model’s “huge booty” – and got Kanye smiling and saying;

“I like form, I like shape… It’s one way to express yourself during a presentation like this, but I like all people and I try to demonstrate that in my casting.”

And of the casting choices, which saw a mixture of famous faces (hello, Bella Hadid) and models of all shapes and sizes, Kanye may have made an error (or pulled off a subtle stunt, we’re not sure) in casting Ian Connor – of Instagram fame and stylist to Whiz Khalifa – who seemingly couldn’t wait the ten minutes till the show was to light a cigarette.

The other talking point in terms of casting has been his choice to have Kylie Jenner walk the runway in his designs, with the youngest sister of the Kardashian-Jenner clan seen sporting skin-tight, nude number by her brother-in-law, under a low baseball jacket.

And on the clothes, a significant theme of relaxed basic-wear was carried through from Kanye’s first collection, though the palette focussed mostly on nudes with a few browns and khaki shades included.
