Top Nigerian designer (and dresser – like, have you seen her instagram lately?), Lisa Folawiyo has been caught talking to CNN, telling the story of how she went From Court to Catwalk.
The talent, who has dressed some of the world’s top celebrities, recently including actress Rita Dominic and presenter Eku Edewor, explained how her beginnings as a lawyer lead to her starting her own fashion business back in 2005 (without any formal training) – a success story which has seen the creative’s designs on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week, on the bodies of A-lister’s and on the lips of magazine editors worldwide.
Ms Folawiyo, who recently collaborated with Pandora on an ankara-inspired range (read about that, here), explained;
“I think that somewhere inside of me there’s this creative energy waiting to come out. And I think this [business] is how I was able to express that creativity within me.
I get thrills and chills and lots of adrenaline pumping when I design pieces. From an idea in my head I can sketch something, and I can see it being made and see it on the runway.
And then not only that, to see women wearing it every day – it’s amazing, there’s nothing that can compare to that. It’s just a dream.”
