London’s Southbank Centre to Celebrate Madiba with “Mandela Weekend”

The UK’s largest and most iconic arts centre, the Southbank Centre in London is set to hold an event celebrating the life and legacy of the late legend, Madiba, titled “Mandela Weekend.”

Set over the 18th and 19th of July, and coinciding with National Nelson Mandela Day (his birthday, July 18th) the weekend will see a whole host of free talks, debates and performances taking place, discussing the former president of South Africa and featuring renowned South African writers, artists, filmmakers, curators and activists, including Ben White, Shami Chakrabarti, Leeto Thale, Nadia Davids and many more.

The weekend also falls as part of the Southbank Centre’s “Festival of Love,” which has been ongoing since June 6th and will end on August 31st – this year taking inspiration from Mr Mandela and his 67 years of campaigning for civil rights.

We at SPICE think the two days are not to be missed – what with a specially curated film programme including Idris Elba’s documentary, Mandela, My Dad and Me plus live music and new open-air dance, Madiba on the event listing – but see a more information and a schedule for the Southbank Centre’s “Mandela Weekend” here and let us know online @SPICETVAFRICA if you’ll be in attendance.
