South African-born designer, Sindiso Khumalo has just revealed her Spring/Summer’16 collection, titled “Birds of Paradise.”
The range, which sees navy, white, bold red-orange and lime in the mix, is – according to the designer;
“…A two part story looking into the idea of pregnancy and birth. With the arrival of my son, now 20 months ago, I became fascinated with this idea of what we create and what we leave behind when we bring life into the world.
Whilst working in my studio, white on white handprints began to represent the idea of memory, in a print, whilst bright dynamic digital prints began to speak of a the new life that was created after birth.Many handmade textile techniques have been explored, including flocking and foiling, giving a 3D quality to the fabric.
We drew inspiration for the design of the collection from the traditional dress of the South African Venda women and the traditional beadwork created by the South African Zulu Women.”
Team SPICE love spotting the brand’s signatures in the range – Ms Khumalo’s love of architecture is often seen inside her use of graphic prints and the clean silhouettes she creates – and can’t wait to jump into something when the pieces are made available.
