With her selfie reinterpreted by artist John Baldessari, Kenyan actress Lupita Nyongo appears on a limited edition cover or Visionaire magazine – with stars like Drake, Kirsten Dunst and Drew Barrymore amongst others who also signed up to do the honours.
Co-founders of the mag, Cecilia Dean and James Kaliardos created the concept for Visionaire’s latest issue, which focuses on technology, pop culture and art, and is dubbed “the Selife issue,” with stars asked to submit photos of themselves to be re-imagined by Baldessari for the issue. The artist transformed each image in black-and-white, printed them on high quality archival paper and doodled over them with “color interventions” that appear over each star’s faces for brilliant effect.
Lupita announced her cover on social media, saying;
“The Visionaire 64 Art is out! Sneak peek of my print.”
See below Drake, Drew Barrymore and Kirsten Dunst’s Baldessari-style photos, though we at SPICE think Ms Nyong’o’s is the best (Drake’s being the weirdest selfie by far).
Should you want an issue for yourself though, note there are three editions of the magazine available, each including 10 different artworks, with only 500 copies available via the Visionaire website here while stocks last;
