As we host our Social Media Week event today, talking on how the African narrative can be told online, top tech entrepreneur and founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg has been caught reminding employees that #BlackLivesMatter and why he is not here for the countering #AllLivesMatter.
The recent new dad and CEO posted a statement to Facebook’s employee announcement page, which firmly explained he was “very disappointed by” employees scratching off the #BlackLivesMatter slogan from the office’s famed ‘signature wall‘ and writing #AllLivesMatter, deeming it “disrespectful” and “malicious”.
Zuckerberg wrote;
The office, based in Menlo Park, California is reportedly comprised of a staff that is just 2 percent black, and mainly male – diversity seemingly being an issue within the Facebook team.
However, while the fashion and entertainment industry is under increasing pressure to address its lack of diversity, it’s good to hear a global company with such a weight of influence is vigilant in addressing the social issues that its employees and consumers face.
Team SPICE have respect to anyone (with or without Mark Zuckerberg’s level of power) who encourages people to “treat each other with respect”, no matter their race, sex, age, religion or inclination.
