Top menswear label The Okunoren Twins have announced a new competition for established and budding designers – one with a cool N5 million as its top prize.
With the competition, the brand – founded by brothers Taiwo and Kehinde Okunoren – aims to strive for innovation from Nigeria’s designers, tailors, bearers, shoe-makers and fashion entrepreneurs, with a view to reach ‘the next level in fashion’ and award the win to any entrant who is able to demonstrate ‘outstanding innovation’ in their creations.
As well as the prize money, the winner will also receive the very best in mentoring and support, with runners up in the final stage awarded with other cash prizes and forms of business support.
The judging panel will include TV stars, Eku Edewor and Nike Oshinowo among what we expect to be a highly esteemed judging panel, with the Okunoren Twins heading it.
Head of operations at Okunoren, Muyiwa Fereirra commented;
“The Nigerian fashion industry has grown in leaps and bounds over the last decade in terms of numbers, but has come to a grinding halt in terms of innovation and creativity. The prize is a way to jolt the entire industry and also support small and medium scale entrepreneurs.“
