While we just about recover from the news that A$AP Rocky is the new face of Dior Homme, rap icon Missy Elliott is announced as the muse of Marc Jacobs, who’s signed her up as ambassador for his Autumn/Winter’16 collection.
The news was announced via the creative director’s Instagram, with Mr Jacobs writing;
“MISSY, Supa Dupa Fly,
From the moment I heard, The Rain, back in 1997, I was entranced by the genius rhythms and brilliant rhymes of Missy Elliott. Missy’s music has kept me and my design team happily energised through countless weekdays, weeknights and weekends during those long hours of sketching, fitting, styling and doing looks. In addition to the boundless energy of her music are the visually pulsating and wildly cartoon-like music videos she made in collaboration with the talented and visionary, Hype Williams.
I am in continued awe of Missy’s ability to push the boundaries of the style of music both to the eye and to the ear. It was a dream of mine to work with her and I’m happy to share this portrait by David Sims for our Fall ’16 campaign.”

Missy (who joins actress Sissy Spacek, former modelling couple “Jarlos” – aka Carlos Santolalla and John Tuite – and performance artist Genesis P-Orridge as Autumn/Winter’16 muses) appears photographed by David Sims, wearing pieces from the Fall collection along with a colourful new ‘do – the surrealist styling seeming to pay homage to those ’90s Hype Williams music videos and the colourful personality of the rapper’s wardrobe.
Past seasons have seen Willow Smith and Cher fronting the brand, with Mr Jacobs known to follow his person interests, rather than social media or popularity when choosing his muses.
The hip hop icon wrote of the honour on her Instagram page;
“Thank u @themarcjacobs for having me be apart of your new amazing Fall “16 ad campaign I am so GRATEFUL! You are a sweetheart!
…Thank u Marc & David much love to u”
It’s been a busy week for Missy E so far, with the VH1 HipHop Honors announcing she’ll be celebrated at this year’s event, and the rapper having announced she’ll be contributing to the soundtrack of the upcoming Ghost Busters movie, as well as having launched a new campaign with Sprite.
